Sweetie Pies Sweet Potatoes Recipe

The sweet potatoes have orange flesh that makes this dish prettier and colorful. The ingredients are simple and easily available. I used butter and margarine for a better taste and more flavorful sweet potatoes.

It is so easy to cook sweet potatoes with this recipe. First you have to wash, peel and then slice the sweet potatoes in ¾ inch pieces. It is a lot faster and easier to cook that way. This is a perfect classic dish for holidays or any special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 3 large sweet potatoes
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp margarine
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 cups water

How to cook sweet potatoes

First wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Cut them in half (length wise). Then cut each half into ¾ inch slices.

In a pot, melt butter and margarine. Add sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and water. Bring to a boil.

Add sweet potatoes slices and stir to mix. Cover and reduce heat to low.

Cook for 45 minutes until the sweet potatoes are tender and little hard on edges.

Put the sweet potatoes on serving plate and serve hot.

  1. In step 2, you say to “melt butter AND margarine”, yet butter us not mentioned in the list of ingredients. Should that be butter “or” margarine?

    1. I forgot to mention butter in the ingredients list. Thanks for pointing out. Use 1 tablespoon of butter with margarine. I have updated the post.
